Unleashing the Entrepreneurial Spirit of Veterans

One of the most remarkable yet often underappreciated facts about veterans is their inclination toward entrepreneurship. Veterans are 45% more likely to be self-employed than their non-veteran counterparts. This statistic is not just a number; it is a testament to the resilience, discipline, and leadership skills that veterans bring from their military service to the business world. As we delve into the reasons behind this entrepreneurial spirit and explore how initiatives like National Invest In Veterans Week® support veteran entrepreneurs, it becomes evident that the journey from service to self-employment is a natural and rewarding progression.

The Military Foundation: Building Blocks of Entrepreneurship

The military experience imparts a unique set of skills and values that are directly transferable to the entrepreneurial landscape. Veterans are trained to think strategically, act decisively, and lead effectively under pressure. These qualities are essential for any successful entrepreneur. Additionally, the military fosters a culture of teamwork and mission-oriented thinking, which translates into a strong ability to build and manage a cohesive team in a business setting.

Veterans are accustomed to navigating complex, high-stakes environments. This experience equips them with a remarkable ability to adapt to changing circumstances, a critical trait for entrepreneurs who must continually pivot and innovate to stay competitive. Moreover, the problem-solving skills honed in the military enable veterans to tackle business challenges with a level of confidence and ingenuity that is often unparalleled.

The Statistical Edge: Why Veterans Excel in Entrepreneurship

The statistic that veterans are 45% more likely to be self-employed than non-veterans is rooted in several key factors. First and foremost, the transition from military to civilian life often comes with a desire for autonomy and control over one's destiny. Entrepreneurship offers veterans the opportunity to leverage their skills and experiences to create something of their own, providing a sense of purpose and fulfillment.

Furthermore, veterans are adept at risk management. Military training emphasizes the importance of assessing risks and making informed decisions, a skill that is invaluable in the business world. This ability to navigate uncertainty gives veteran entrepreneurs an edge in managing the inherent risks of starting and running a business.

Access to resources and support networks also plays a crucial role. Many veterans take advantage of programs specifically designed to help them transition into entrepreneurship. From government grants and loans to mentorship programs and business incubators, veterans have access to a wide array of resources that can help them succeed.

Our goal is to create a thriving ecosystem where veteran entrepreneurs can connect, collaborate, and share their experiences and insights.

Success Stories: Inspiring Examples of Veteran Entrepreneurship

The success stories of veteran entrepreneurs are a testament to the impact of initiatives like National Invest In Veterans Week®. Take, for example, the story of John Smith, a former Army officer who launched a successful tech startup after his military service. Leveraging the leadership and problem-solving skills he developed in the military, John was able to build a company that now employs dozens of people and serves clients around the world.

Another inspiring example is Maria Rodriguez, a Navy veteran who turned her passion for fitness into a thriving business. With the support of veteran-focused programs and a strong network of fellow veterans, Maria was able to open a chain of fitness studios that cater specifically to veterans and their families. Her business not only provides a valuable service but also creates a sense of community and support for veterans.

These stories are just a glimpse of the incredible potential that lies within the veteran community. By providing the right resources and support, we can unlock this potential and help veterans achieve their entrepreneurial dreams.

The Future of Veteran Entrepreneurship: Building a Legacy

As we look to the future, it is clear that veteran entrepreneurship will continue to play a vital role in our economy and society. The entrepreneurial spirit of veterans is not just about creating successful businesses; it is about building a legacy of innovation, resilience, and community impact.

At National Invest In Veterans Week®, we are dedicated to continuing our efforts to support veteran entrepreneurs and to raise awareness of the unique strengths they bring to the business world. By championing veteran-owned businesses and providing them with the tools and resources they need to succeed, we can create a brighter future for our veterans and for our nation as a whole.

Empowering Our Heroes: USA Cares' Endorsement and Impact During National Invest In Veterans Week®

In honor of National Invest In Veterans Week®, a critical initiative that shines a spotlight on the valuable contributions of military veterans, it's essential to discuss the robust support systems that empower our veterans to thrive beyond their military service. One such pillar of support is USA Cares, a non-profit organization dedicated to assisting post-9/11 military veterans, service members, and their families through financial assistance and post-service skills training. Their endorsement and activities during National Invest in Veterans Week® underscore their mission and the broader efforts to ensure long-term stability for veterans.

This transition isn’t just about adapting to a new daily routine; it’s about reconciling intense past experiences with current realities and future hopes. Organizations like USA Cares are vital in this process, providing targeted support that addresses the unique challenges veterans face. National Invest In Veterans Week® Stands With South Korea Veterans

In a significant stride towards global recognition and solidarity, the International Veterans Organization proudly announces the successful launch of the first-ever International Veterans Day, observed globally on March 3rd. This initiative represents a groundbreaking effort to honor the service and sacrifices of veterans worldwide, transcending national boundaries and fostering a universal spirit of respect and appreciation.

Visionary Leadership and International Collaboration

International Veterans Day owes its inception to the visionary efforts of Jeff Shuford, a renowned advocate for veterans' causes. "Our goal was to create a day that acknowledges the universal challenges and triumphs of military service," said Shuford. This new observance has garnered strong international endorsements, including significant support from South Korean veterans, exemplifying a robust global commitment to veteran recognition.

Strategically Selected Date Enhances Global Unity

The choice of March 3rd as International Veterans Day was carefully considered to avoid overlap with other national veterans' days, such as the U.S. Veterans Day on November 11. This strategic timing is designed to ensure that the day is marked by a focus on international unity and respect, providing a distinct occasion to celebrate the shared experiences of veterans around the world.

International Veterans Day: A New Chapter in Global Remembrance and Unity

March 3rd marks a significant milestone in the global calendar as International Veterans Day, a day dedicated to celebrating the contributions of veterans worldwide. This day transcends national boundaries and unifies international sentiments, acknowledging the shared experiences and sacrifices of military veterans from various nations. Unlike the traditional Veterans Day observed in the United States and similar commemorations on November 11th in other countries, March 3rd serves as a unique day of recognition, setting a new precedent for international veteran appreciation.

March 3rd holds deep historical roots with multiple significant events enhancing its selection as International Veterans Day. For instance, on this day in 1931, "The Star-Spangled Banner" was declared the national anthem of the United States, symbolizing national unity and resilience. Similarly, the establishment of the Federal Naval Reserve on March 3, 1915, underscored the importance of military readiness and strategic foresight. These events, among others, such as the statehood of Florida and the creation of the Minnesota Territory, contribute to the rich tapestry of March 3rd, making it a day not just of remembrance but also of celebration of progress and strategic milestones.

The decision to establish March 3rd as International Veterans Day was driven by the recognition of a gap in a truly global acknowledgment of veterans' contributions. While many countries have specific days to honor their military personnel, these often coincide with significant historical military events pertinent to those nations. International Veterans Day aims to transcend these national narratives, offering a day that can unite all countries in a collective acknowledgment of military service and sacrifice. It represents a day of solidarity, reflection, and celebration that resonates across all borders.

Compared to other commemorative days like the United States' Veterans Day, Anzac Day in Australia, or Volkstrauertag in Germany, March 3rd does not align with any existing national military remembrance days, thereby avoiding historical overlaps and ensuring its unique position as a day of inclusive international remembrance. This strategic choice allows for a more unified global observance, which celebrates the common values and sacrifices shared among the veterans of the world's military forces.

International Veterans Day encourages various forms of recognition and celebration. Activities range from social media campaigns promoting stories of international veterans, to community gatherings and parades in different countries. The day also promotes economic support for veteran-owned businesses globally and encourages educational and resourceful workshops that aid veterans in accessing benefits and opportunities. Through these actions, the day not only honors veterans but also supports their continued welfare and integration into civilian life.

Tied closely to International Veterans Day is the National Invest in Veterans Week®, observed from March 1st to 7th. This week focuses on advocacy for veterans, aiming to draw attention to and address their needs through educational, economic, and healthcare initiatives. By investing in the welfare of veterans, the week serves as a proactive approach to enhancing their lives and acknowledging their sacrifices in a tangible, impactful manner.

International Veterans Day on March 3rd is not merely a day of remembrance; it is a call to action for nations worldwide to unite in their respect and gratitude towards those who have served. It challenges the global community to rise above historical and nationalistic differences, fostering a shared identity and mutual respect among all veterans. This day asks us to reflect on the broader implications of military service — understanding it as a commitment that transcends national boundaries and unites individuals under the common cause of peace and security. As we move forward, March 3rd stands as a beacon of international unity and a testament to the enduring spirit of those who have served their countries across the globe.

Quick Facts:

"The Star-Spangled Banner" becomes official: On March 3, 1931, President Herbert Hoover signed a congressional act making "The Star-Spangled Banner" the official national anthem of the United States.

Establishment of the Federal Naval Reserve: On March 3, 1915, Congress established the Federal Naval Reserve, which played a significant role in the U.S. Navy's operations during major conflicts including World Wars I and II.

Statehood and territorial organization: Florida was admitted as the 27th state of the United States on March 3, 1845. Additionally, on March 3, 1849, Congress created the Minnesota Territory.

First amphibious military operation: March 3 marks the date of the first amphibious landing operation by American forces during the Revolutionary War.

Veterans Day Observances Worldwide: March 3 also provides an interesting contrast to how various nations honor their military veterans.

South Korea observes its Veterans Day on June 6th, which is also known as Memorial Day or "Hyun Choong Il".

Germany’s equivalent to Veterans Day is Volkstrauertag (People’s Day of Mourning), observed on the Sunday closest to November 16th.

Australia commemorates Anzac Day on April 25th.

Japan observes its Memorial Day for War Dead on August 15th.

In the United Kingdom, Remembrance Day is observed on November 11th, with the Sunday nearest to November 11th celebrated as Remembrance Sunday.

Choosing March 3rd as International Veterans Day provides a unique date that does not overlap with the national observances of these countries, allowing it to stand as a distinct day dedicated to celebrating the contributions of veterans globally.

Concluding Thoughts:

March 3rd isn’t just another day on the calendar; it’s a celebration of progress and remembrance in the fabric of world history.

March 3rd has been selected as the date for International Veterans Day to establish a unified global observance that honors veterans from every nation, surpassing the limitations of individual national histories.

International Veterans Day was established in 2024 by Iraq War veteran Jeff Shuford, under the guidance of LTC Rickey L. Pope, USA (Ret.), and with strategic advisement from Lonnell McCall II and NFL legend Drayton Florence.

The congressionally honored National Invest In Veterans Week® precedes the establishment of International Veterans Day and was created to encourage a week-long observance focused on increasing support and investment in the lives of veterans.

The day serves as a tribute to the nearly 2.5 million post-9/11 military veterans, with a special focus on those who have represented less than 1% of the population yet have significantly shaped international military engagements.

Historical Significance and Symbolism of March 3rd

The selection of March 3rd as International Veterans Day is deeply symbolic, coinciding with historic events such as the formal adoption of "The Star-Spangled Banner" as the U.S. national anthem in 1931, reflecting the resilience and unity of forces in international conflicts. This date also marks the establishment of the Federal Naval Reserve in 1915 and commemorates the first amphibious landing operation by American forces in 1776 during the Battle of Nassau.

International Veterans Day: A New Frontier in Veteran Advocacy and Global Unity

March 3rd marks a significant advancement in our commitment to honoring veterans not just within our borders but across the globe. International Veterans Day, which we observe annually on this impactful date, was instituted to recognize the brave men and women who have served internationally, illuminating their sacrifices and contributions to global peace and security. As a veteran and an advocate for veteran entrepreneurship, I understand deeply the potential and the challenges faced by our veterans. Since our inception in 2019 our supporters have requested that we expand globally, this new observance is our call to action, encouraging global recognition and support for these deserving individuals.

The Significance of March 3rd

The choice of March 3rd as International Veterans Day is steeped in historical significance, reflecting key moments in military history that resonate with the ideals of courage and resilience. On this day in 1931, the United States adopted "The Star-Spangled Banner" as its national anthem, a song born from the sights and sounds of the War of 1812, symbolizing resilience and unity in the face of international conflict. Additionally, March 3rd marks the creation of the Federal Naval Reserve in 1915, emphasizing readiness and strategic preparation, qualities that are essential in both military and civilian pursuits.

A Global Perspective on Veteran Contributions

Our veterans are a diverse group, with over 2.5 million post-9/11 military veterans representing less than 1% of the U.S. population, yet their global impact is profound. Many of these veterans have spent significant portions of their service in overseas combat zones, with over two million serving in critical areas like Afghanistan and Iraq. These experiences not only shape their lives but also contribute to a broader understanding of international cooperation and security.

The Role of Digital Advocacy and Global Outreach

With the launch of International Veterans Day, we also celebrate the introduction of domain names such as SouthKoreaVeterans.com, GermanyVeterans.com, and Veterans.International, among others. These platforms are designed to provide localized support and accessible resources to veterans around the world, further enhancing our ability to reach and assist veterans on an international scale.

In recognizing the challenges and triumphs of our international veterans, we not only honor their past sacrifices but also empower their future endeavors. By providing educational opportunities, mental health resources, and support for veteran-owned businesses, we invest in a global community that values and upholds the ideals veterans embody.

Calls to Action on International Veterans Day

On March 3rd, and throughout the year, I urge everyone to engage with and support international veterans through several impactful actions:

  • Promote Awareness: Use social media to highlight the stories and achievements of veterans worldwide.

  • Support Veteran Businesses: Engage with and patronize businesses owned by veterans, fostering economic empowerment.

  • Participate in Global Events: Attend workshops and seminars that provide veterans with tools for success.

  • Advocate for Recognition: Encourage legislative bodies around the world to officially recognize and honor the contributions of veterans.

As we celebrate the first observance of International Veterans Day, let us renew our commitment to supporting our veterans globally. Their service transcends national boundaries and so should our gratitude and support. This day is more than a celebration; it is a pivotal moment in our ongoing mission to ensure that every veteran receives the honor, respect, and opportunities they deserve.

Jeff Shuford, a nationally syndicated columnist and decorated veteran, continues to lead initiatives that bridge the gap between military service and successful entrepreneurial ventures. His efforts in establishing International Veterans Day as part of National Invest In Veterans Week® are just the latest in his longstanding commitment to veteran advocacy and empowerment on a global scale.

Empowering Veterans: How National Invest In Veterans Week® Sparks Job Growth and Economic Resilience

Bucking the trends of economic forecasters and naysayers alike, the resilience and dynamism of the U.S. labor market have shone through, much to the astonishment and delight of observers. This surge in employment, particularly within sectors emblematic of the American spirit—healthcare, government, leisure, hospitality, and construction—has brought about a wave of optimism, especially for someone as invested in the reintegration of veterans into our nation's economic fabric as I am.

Entrepreneurial Spirit Among Veterans

The March jobs report, with its surprising addition of 303,000 jobs and a slight dip in unemployment to 3.8%, feels like a vindication of our collective efforts through initiatives like National Invest In Veterans Week®. It's as if the very core of the American economy, undeterred by the looming shadows of 11 consecutive interest rate hikes, decided to put on a show of force, adding a significant number of jobs against all odds. This is not just a rebuttal to the expected economic slowdowns; it's a testament to the undying importance of supporting our veterans' journey back to civilian life. The sectors leading the charge in this job growth are notably aligned with the mission of National Invest In Veterans Week®, offering a beacon of hope for veterans seeking meaningful employment. It's an endorsement of the critical role veterans play in fueling our nation's economic engine and enriching its societal tapestry. A narrative from Campaigning Info throws light on the entrepreneurial spirit among veterans, driven by economic necessity in the face of the pandemic. With 48% citing financial concerns as their primary motivator, veterans have been more inclined to venture into business, particularly in Goods-Producing/Logistic sectors. This strategic alignment with market demands has not only demonstrated the veterans' operational acumen but also highlighted their remarkable ability to thrive under economic pressures.

Economic Resilience and Innovation

This unexpected uptick in employment statistics sends a strong message about the increasing demand for skilled, dedicated workers—qualities that veterans possess in abundance. This development not only strengthens our resolve to honor and invest in our veterans but also magnifies our commitment to ensuring they are integral to our economy's growth. Moreover, the jobs report shines a light on the overarching story of economic resilience, underscoring the potential for sustained innovation and expansion within our workforce. It reminds us that supporting our veterans goes beyond a moral obligation; it's a strategic investment in the prosperity of our nation. As we navigate the post-pandemic recovery, the successes highlighted by this jobs report should serve as a clarion call, inspiring us to redouble our efforts in facilitating the smooth integration of veterans into the civilian workforce. Through flagship initiatives like National Invest In Veterans Week®, we're not just honoring our veterans; we're unlocking a trove of talent, dedication, and leadership poised to take our economy to new heights. At its heart, the story woven by this jobs report is filled with opportunity, resilience, and untapped potential within our veteran community. It beckons us to collective action—to ensure the journey of veterans into civilian employment is not just possible but smooth, fulfilling, and immensely rewarding. As we continue to celebrate and support our veterans, let's also champion their invaluable contributions to our economic vitality and the rich mosaic of our national identity.

Recognizing Veterans' Skills and Dedication

The momentum reflected in these job numbers suggests a turning of the tide, where economic growth and veteran employment not only coexist but flourish together. It paints a picture of a future where veteran skills and leadership are not just recognized but sought after, bridging the gap between military service and civilian success. This alignment between economic health and veteran reintegration underlines the mutual benefits of a holistic approach to national economic strategies, where inclusivity and diversity are not just ideals but essential components of prosperity.

By weaving the fabric of our workforce with the threads of veteran experience and expertise, we enrich our economy in ways beyond mere numbers. These veterans bring unique perspectives, resilience, and a commitment to excellence that can inspire innovation and drive growth in all sectors. Their journey from serving our country to revitalizing our economy is a testament to the strength and versatility of the American spirit, reinforcing the importance of creating pathways that acknowledge and leverage their valuable contributions.

Embracing Opportunity and Resilience

Amidst the buoyant figures and positive forecasts, we must not lose sight of the individual stories behind these numbers—the personal triumphs of veterans making their mark in the civilian world. Each job placement, every new business venture, and all steps toward economic stability are milestones in the broader narrative of transition and triumph. These successes are not just statistics; they are powerful reminders of resilience, adaptability, and the indomitable will to succeed against all odds.

In this context, the March jobs report is not merely a collection of data but a beacon of hope and a call to action. It challenges us to push beyond traditional boundaries, to innovate, and to forge stronger connections between the veteran community and the broader economic landscape. As we look to the future, let's build on this momentum, ensuring that our veterans are not just participants but leaders in the next chapter of our national story. The dialogue between military service and civilian achievement is ongoing, and with each step forward, we reinforce the foundations of a thriving, inclusive economy that benefits all.

Throughout his professional career, Jones has achieved notable success, including being named to the Pro Bowl in 2020, co-leading the NFL in rushing touchdowns in 2019, and receiving multiple NFC Offensive Player of the Week honors. Beyond his athletic achievements, Jones has been a consistent advocate for charitable causes, especially those benefiting children and military families.

Aaron Jones's connection to the military is personal and profound. Born into a military family, with both parents serving as non-commissioned officers in the U.S. Army, Jones's upbringing was shaped by the values of service, sacrifice, and community. This background has fueled his passion for supporting military veterans and their families, making his efforts during National Invest In Veterans Week® not just acts of charity, but expressions of deep gratitude and respect.

Jones's engagement in supporting military veterans is multifaceted. Through the A&A All the Way Foundation, which he co-founded with his twin brother, Jones has actively worked to impact the lives of military families positively. The foundation's initiatives have included hosting football camps for children of military families, providing them with opportunities to engage in physical activity, learn about teamwork, and build self-confidence. These camps serve not only as a means of fun and education but also as a bridge connecting military families with the broader community, fostering a sense of belonging and support.

The continued recognition of the A&A All The Way Foundation in both 2023 and 2024 with awards from the organization underscores the profound potential of leveraging personal success for the benefit of others, particularly within the veteran community. The foundation’s initiatives are a testament to the power of targeted philanthropy in addressing the nuanced needs of veterans and their families, illustrating how individual commitment can spark significant societal change. This recognition not only celebrates the foundation's achievements but also serves as a call to action for others to consider how they can contribute to meaningful social impact. It highlights the multifaceted approach needed to address the challenges facing the veteran community, including mental health support, transition assistance, and community integration. The foundation’s work exemplifies the ripple effect that thoughtful, targeted support can have, not just on individuals but on the broader community, inspiring others to leverage their own platforms and resources for good. The acknowledgment of such efforts during National Invest In Veterans Week® reinforces the notion that societal change often begins with the actions of committed individuals and organizations, emphasizing the importance of collective efforts in driving progress and support for veterans.

In addition to his foundation's work having helped hundreds of military families, Jones has been a visible advocate for veteran causes on a national stage. His nomination for the NFL's Salute to Service Award is a testament to his commitment to honoring the military community. This recognition highlights his efforts to raise awareness about the challenges faced by veterans and to promote initiatives aimed at assisting their transition to civilian life. Whether it's advocating for mental health resources, supporting educational opportunities, or simply using his platform to thank veterans for their service, Jones's actions speak to a genuine desire to make a difference.

Jones's contributions extend beyond structured programs and initiatives. His personal gestures of appreciation, such as visiting military bases, engaging with veterans at events, and even the symbolic acts of wearing apparel that honors the military during games, serve as powerful reminders of the sacrifices made by servicemen and women. These actions, though seemingly small, carry significant weight, offering a public acknowledgment of the valor and dedication of military members.

Moreover, Jones's story and his dedication to supporting veterans resonate with many, serving as an inspiring example of how individuals can leverage their platforms for social good. His approach underscores the idea that honoring and supporting veterans is a year-round commitment, extending beyond National Invest In Veterans Week®. It's about creating sustainable support systems, raising awareness, and fostering a culture of gratitude and respect for those who have served.

Grammy Hall of Famer Jim Freeman, a congressionally honored pivotal figure in the early rock & roll era and a original member of the legendary group The Five Satins, known for their timeless hit "In the Still of the Night," brought a touch of musical prestige and historical significance to the announcement. National Invest In Veterans Week® 2024: A Brief Recap

Last week, the United States commemorated National Invest In Veterans Week® 2024, states across the nation are stepping up to highlight the invaluable contributions of veterans to our communities and economy.

Leading by example, Montana commemorated Invest In Veterans Week 2024 with yet another proclamation, the great state has also launched a series of initiatives under Governor Greg Gianforte's administration to honor, support, and invest in veterans, showcasing a comprehensive approach to veteran support that other states might well emulate.

Governor Gianforte's active participation in the week's events underscored the importance Montana places on its veteran population. The governor's visit to Double J Fencing, a veteran-owned business in Victor, not only celebrated the entrepreneurial spirit of veterans but also spotlighted the state's commitment to fostering an environment where veteran-owned businesses can thrive. Double J Fencing owner Jim Vargovich, a U.S. Army veteran, highlighted this commitment, saying, “We want to hire as many veterans as we can. It's important for veterans to come together and have that feeling of commonality when working together and getting back in their own communities again.”

The significance of these efforts is magnified by Montana's distinction of having one of the highest populations of veterans per capita in the United States. Governor Gianforte's initiatives, such as increasing the business equipment tax exemption and exempting up to 50 percent of military retirement pay from state income tax, reflect a targeted strategy to ease the transition of veterans to civilian life and entrepreneurship.

During National Invest in Veterans Week 2024, Governor Gianforte also hosted a roundtable discussion in Helena, bringing together veterans, advocates, and support organizations. The event, held at the 1889 Coffee House—a veteran-owned business—kicked off Invest In Veterans Week®, reinforcing the state's mission to support veterans in various aspects of life, including entrepreneurship and access to resources. Brett Wiensch, the owner of 1889 Coffee House, captured the essence of the event: “This today was wonderful to meet different people in different organizations throughout Montana and to see the love and passion they all carry about our veterans.”

The State Treasurer's Veterans' Bonus Division played a pivotal role during the week, focusing on recognizing and investing in the aspirations and contributions of veterans. This initiative aligns with Governor Gianforte's vision of a state that not only recognizes the sacrifices of its veterans but also actively works to provide them with the tools and resources they need to succeed.

Furthermore, Governor Gianforte's visit to the Bitterroot Valley to spotlight veteran-owned businesses in Victor was part of a broader effort to promote veteran entrepreneurship within the state. This visit, coupled with the state's legislative efforts to reduce regulatory burdens and provide tax exemptions for veterans, underscores a comprehensive approach to supporting veterans.

The roundtable discussions, visits to veteran-owned businesses, and legislative actions taken by the state of Montana during National Invest In Veterans Week® 2024 offer a blueprint for how states can support their veteran populations. By investing in veterans, Montana not only honors those who have served but also strengthens its economy and community, making it a model for the nation.

As National Invest In Veterans Week® 2024 concludes, the initiatives and discussions held in Montana serve as a significant reminder of the importance of honoring, supporting, and investing in veterans. It is a week that not only celebrates the contributions of veteran entrepreneurs and service members but also reiterates the collective responsibility to ensure they receive the support and opportunities they deserve.

Building on the momentum of Montana's Invest In Veterans Week®, Congressman Matt Rosendale from Montana's second district took to the House Floor to honor America's veterans and highlight the significant initiative led by Governor Gianforte. With veterans constituting nearly 9% of Montana's population, the state proudly stands fifth in the nation for the highest veteran per capita ratio, home to over 78,000 veterans. Rosendale emphasized the critical role veteran-owned businesses play in bolstering the economy, providing jobs for over 5 million people, and generating upwards of $1 trillion annually. From agricultural ventures to cutting-edge tech firms, these businesses stand as a testament to veterans' unwavering commitment to their communities post-service.

Rosendale's address underscored a powerful message: support for veterans extends beyond a single week to a continuous, year-long mission that leverages the unique skills and experiences of veterans for societal benefit. "Investing in our veterans means giving them the tools they need to continue contributing their remarkable skills and expertise for the benefit of all," Rosendale remarked, stressing the importance of unwavering support for veterans. He wrapped up his speech with heartfelt thanks to his fellow lawmakers and a call to action for sustained efforts to back veterans, advocating for a nationwide commitment.

Echoing Rosendale's sentiments, NFL Legend, Invest In Veterans Week co-founder, and award-winning veteran advocate Drayton Florence shared his perspective on the crucial nature of supporting veterans: "Supporting our veterans is an investment in not just their future but in the innovation and resilience of our economy. Veteran-owned businesses are a testament to the strength and diversity of the American entrepreneurial spirit. When we invest in our veterans, we're investing in the backbone of our nation."

These initiatives and statements during National Invest In Veterans® Week 2024 illuminate the ongoing commitment to recognizing and supporting the contributions of veterans. By providing veterans with the resources and opportunities they deserve, efforts like those showcased in Montana and advocated for on the national stage by Congressman Rosendale signify a profound appreciation for the sacrifices made by veterans and a recognition of their potential to continue serving their country in new and impactful ways.

Advocating for Presidential Recognition of National Invest In Veterans

The genesis of National Invest In Veterans Week® was seeded in a simple yet profound concept: those who have served their country deserve every opportunity to thrive within it. With a focus on employment and entrepreneurship, the initiative aims to empower veterans, leveraging their unique experiences for success in civilian roles. Jeff Shuford, Co-Founder of National Invest In Veterans Week, a Nationally Syndicated Business Columnist, and Veteran Entrepreneur stated, "As we mark another year of National Invest In Veterans Week®, it's crucial to reflect on the progress we've made and the journey ahead. This initiative, which I am proud to have co-founded, goes beyond mere recognition – it's a commitment to the empowerment and integration of our veterans into the fabric of our society. Each year, we see tangible examples of success and transformation that reinforce our dedication to this cause. It's a week where the entire nation can unite in support of those who have given so much for our freedom and security."

The impact of this observance is measured not just in celebrations and accolades but in tangible outcomes—reduced unemployment rates among veterans, increased business ownership, and a growing acknowledgment of the vital role veterans play in a robust economy.

In Montana, the declaration of National Invest In Veterans Week by Governor Greg Gianforte in 2023 marked a watershed moment for veteran advocacy. This proclamation was more than a symbolic gesture; it was a rallying cry that led to discernible change. In the months that followed, the veteran unemployment rate in the state saw a marked decrease, suggesting a direct correlation between the proclamation and improved employment prospects for veterans. Lieutenant Colonel Rickey L. Pope, U.S. Army (Ret.), Director of Veteran Impact for National Invest In Veterans Week® stated, "The proclamation of National Invest In Veterans Week® in Montana by Governor Gianforte was a significant milestone in our ongoing efforts to support our veteran community. This initiative proved to be more than just a formal declaration; it became a catalyst for real and positive change within the state. The subsequent decrease in veteran unemployment rates is a testament to the effectiveness of targeted advocacy and action. It highlighted the readiness of our veterans to transition into civilian roles, and the willingness of employers to recognize the unique skills and experiences they bring to the workforce. Montana's response has set a remarkable precedent, demonstrating how focused efforts can open new horizons for our veterans."

The call to action had been sounded, and Montana responded with initiatives and programs that opened doors for veterans seeking work and those aspiring to start their own businesses.

South Carolina echoed this sentiment, with the General Assembly passing a concurrent resolution in 2019 to commemorate the week. This legislative move went a step further, spotlighting veteran-owned businesses and the entrepreneurial spirit of those who once donned the military uniform. It was a push towards economic empowerment, encouraging communities and local businesses to collaborate with and support veteran entrepreneurs. Drayton Florence, Former NFL Player with the Carolina Panthers and Co-Founder of National Invest In Veterans Week® stated, "South Carolina's decision to pass a resolution for National Invest In Veterans Week® was a game-changing move in the realm of veteran support, mirroring the kind of teamwork and dedication I experienced in the NFL with the Carolina Panthers. This legislative action has brought a spotlight on the immense entrepreneurial potential within our veteran community. It's inspiring to see how this initiative has encouraged both community involvement and local business support, fostering an environment where veteran entrepreneurs are not only recognized but actively empowered. As a former athlete who has seen the power of unity and support on the field, it's heartening to witness a similar spirit being channeled towards uplifting our veterans."

The initiatives in both states exemplify the spirit of National Invest In Veterans Week® and serve as a testament to the initiative's potential. With every veteran hired, every business launched, and every policy enacted, the observance has sown seeds of progress and prosperity.

A Comparative Study of State-Level Successes in Veteran Advocacy

In the tapestry of veteran support across the United States, the threads of individual state efforts weave together to form a picture of progress and promise. Montana and South Carolina, each with their unique narratives, have demonstrated the effectiveness of state-level initiatives in enhancing the lives of veterans post-service. Yet, the story of advocacy for veterans is incomplete without acknowledging the contributions of Oregon, a state that has also made strides in veteran support through its local proclamations and community-driven efforts.

Douglas County, Oregon, serves as a case in point, where county commissioners have taken it upon themselves to honor veterans through local proclamations that align with National Invest In Veterans Week®. The county's dedication is reflected in the initiatives that have been launched to support the veteran community, from job fairs to mentorship programs aimed at fostering entrepreneurship. While specific unemployment data for veterans post-2019 remains elusive, the general downward trend in unemployment rates offers a hopeful outlook for the efficacy of such initiatives.

The comparative analysis of these three states reveals a shared vision yet diverse strategies for veteran reintegration. Montana's legislative actions have focused on enhancing employment opportunities for veterans, leading to tangible decreases in veteran unemployment rates. “Montana is home to one of the highest populations of veterans per capita in the country, and we’re proud of it,” Montana’s Governor Greg Gianforte said. “This Invest in Veterans Week, I encourage folks to get out and support some of our fantastic veteran-owned businesses in Montana.”

South Carolina has also championed the entrepreneurial spirit of veterans, fostering an environment where veteran-owned businesses are celebrated and supported. Oregon has combined local governmental support with community activism to recognize and honor its veterans.

This multi-state approach highlights the potential of National Invest In Veterans Week to serve as a unifying force that can galvanize similar efforts across the nation. The week has grown beyond a series of events and acknowledgments into a powerful movement, one that calls for a collective commitment to support those who have served.

The Road to Presidential Recognition

The collective strides made by states like Montana, South Carolina, and Oregon in supporting their veteran communities underscore a national sentiment: our veterans deserve more. This prevailing thought sets the stage for the most pivotal advocacy in the journey of National Invest In Veterans Week®—a call for an official White House proclamation by President Joseph R. Biden Jr. Such a proclamation would serve as a beacon of unified support and recognition from the nation's highest office, echoing the commitments made at the state level.

An official endorsement from the President would mark a historic moment in veteran advocacy, elevating the initiative from a series of state-specific acknowledgments to a nationally celebrated observance. It would send a powerful message to veterans across the country: their service and sacrifices are recognized and valued at the very core of our national identity. This acknowledgment would also serve as a call to action for businesses, organizations, and communities to increase their support for veteran employment and entrepreneurship.

The impact of a presidential proclamation would extend beyond symbolic recognition. It would catalyze nationwide efforts to integrate veterans into the workforce and the business world, building upon the successes seen in individual states. By officially declaring National Invest In Veterans Week®, the White House would be endorsing a multitude of initiatives—employment programs, business grants, educational opportunities, and more—that have proven effective in supporting veteran reintegration.

Envisioning a Future of Enhanced Veteran Support

The prospect of an official White House proclamation for National Invest In Veterans Week® opens the door to a future where veteran support is not just a matter of state initiative but a national priority. Such recognition would mark a significant milestone in the journey of honoring and empowering our veterans, setting a precedent for comprehensive and sustained efforts across the country.

Amplifying National Efforts

With the backing of a presidential proclamation, National Invest In Veterans Week® would likely see an amplification of efforts nationwide. This could include expanded federal programs focused on veteran employment and training, increased funding for veteran-owned businesses, and a stronger network of support services. National recognition would also encourage private sector engagement, leading to more companies adopting veteran-friendly hiring practices and supporting veteran entrepreneurship.

Fostering Public Awareness and Participation

Presidential acknowledgment would undoubtedly raise public awareness about the challenges and opportunities facing veterans as they transition to civilian life. It would encourage greater participation from the public in veteran support initiatives, from mentoring programs to community-led events. In addition to the concurrent resolution, South Carolina news publication Columbia Star highlighted the efforts of local South Carolina veteran businesses during National Invest In Veterans Week® and proudly stated, "The Lexington Chamber and Visitors Center is asking the Midlands community to support veteran owned businesses during National Invest In Veterans Week, March 1-7. Established in 2019, Invest In Veterans Week is meant to honor aspiring and established veteran business owners and their contributions to the economy." This increased awareness and involvement would contribute to a more inclusive and supportive environment for veterans.

Chuck McCurry columnist with Lexington County Chronicle that same year reaffirmed, “The Greater Lexington Chamber will be celebrating veteran businesses owners throughout the week on social media. They are asking the community to buy from veteran-owned businesses, partner with vet owned businesses, mentor a veteran entrepreneur, or host a workshop or seminar for aspiring veterans who want to start a business.” He continued, “The chamber hopes to bring a greater awareness of veterans in our community. Countless businesses around the country and the Midlands of South Carolina place a premium on hiring veterans because of the skills, work ethic and potential leadership they gained while serving our country.” The focus on cummitiy partnerships during National Invest In Veterans Week

Dovetailing the community partnerships made during National Invest In Veterans Week® 2019 in South Carolina, Chamber CEO and President Angelle LaBorde stated “Veteran-owned businesses are making a significant impact economically and it is important for the community to show its support and appreciation for their service in the armed forces and for their leadership as small business owners.”

A Commitment to Continuous Advocacy

Finally, an official White House proclamation would symbolize a commitment to continuous advocacy for veteran issues. It would serve as a reminder that supporting our veterans is an ongoing responsibility, extending beyond National Invest In Veterans Week®. This proclamation would be a pledge to keep veteran welfare at the forefront of national discourse, ensuring that their contributions are recognized and their needs are met.

Endorsement: Aaron Jones for the Walter Payton NFL "Man of the Year" Award

Drayton Florence is a former NFL player and co-founder of National Invest In Veterans Week® an organization that advocates for veteran business development. He is also a champion for veteran-focused initiatives and has received numerous awards for his advocacy work.

Endorsement: Aaron Jones for the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award - Invest in Veterans Week

As a co-founder of National Invest In Veterans Week® it is my honor to endorse Aaron Jones for the Walter Payton NFL "Man of the Year" award. Jones' commitment to his community and his work with military veterans exemplify the values that the award represents.

The connection between the military and the National Football League is a strong one. Many NFL players have served in the military or have family members who have served. The discipline, teamwork, and leadership skills learned in the military translate well to the football field, and the NFL recognizes the sacrifices and contributions of military veterans.

Jones' work with his charitable organization, A&A All The Way Foundation, focuses on impacting the lives of children and military families. This work is especially meaningful to me as a veteran myself, and I have seen firsthand the impact that organizations like A&A All The Way Foundation can have on the lives of those who have served our country.

Through his foundation, Jones and his brother have hosted events like charity softball games and turkey giveaways, raising funds for programs that focus on youth recreation and fitness, children's basic needs, and military families. This kind of community engagement is essential to creating positive change and supporting those who need it most.

Jones' commitment to veterans extends beyond his foundation work as well. He has participated in the NFL's Salute to Service initiative, which honors military veterans and their families. He has also visited troops overseas and spoken about the importance of supporting veterans in his interviews with the media.

As someone who has dedicated his post-football career to supporting veteran business development and advocating for veteran-focused initiatives, I know firsthand the importance of having allies in the NFL community who are committed to this work. Jones' dedication to veterans and military families makes him a valuable asset to the NFL and the wider community.

It is my hope that the NFL will recognize Jones' contributions by awarding him the Walter Payton NFL "Man of the Year" award. This award is not just a recognition of Jones' achievements on the field but also a celebration of his commitment to making a difference in the lives of others.

I believe that Jones' work with A&A All The Way Foundation and his dedication to veterans make him a deserving candidate for the award. His example can inspire others to get involved in their communities and support those who have sacrificed so much for our country.

Thank you for considering my endorsement of Aaron Jones for the Walter Payton NFL "Man of the Year" award.

Sincerely,

Drayton Florence Co-Founder, National Invest In Veterans Week®

SYSTEM ACTIVE 📺 DASHBOARD OBSERVANCE-AS-INFRASTRUCTURE

Observance-as-Infrastructure: A civic architecture where a national observance functions as year-round economic and policy infrastructure

A structurally rare model in which the observance operates as a coordination layer—deploying policy-neutral intelligence, research-backed signals, and deployable pathways that convert recognition into measurable participation.

System Overview

This environment is designed as a command surface: it reduces time-to-value by routing each visitor to an actionable tool, a validated reference layer, or a decision pathway—without requiring advocacy or speculative framing.

Veteran Economic Intelligence Dashboard Real-time market-aware signal surfaces for veteran participation and entrepreneurship.
Legislative Dashboard A policy-facing control surface for proclamations, proposals, and adoption-ready artifacts.
Media Command Signal-driven newsroom lane for ecosystem updates, validations, and system releases.
Global Observances Multi-market orientation designed as infrastructure extension, not seasonal expansion.
